Five Steps For Stopping Procrastination

Have you ever felt bad or had undo amounts of stress and were unsure of the cause? Many people have and if they would look at the tasks they have to do they will often find the answer.

Procrastinating on anything you need to do will fester inside you whether you are aware of it or not. Many people put off what is uncomfortable or too time consuming to do and the next thing they know they are a pile of stress and depression. Luckily, there are ways to avoid these horrible feelings and one answer is to stop procrastinating.

Here are 5 keys that one can put into practice to avoid the procrastination killer:

1. Do It Now! – By getting the dreadful things out of the way, there will be no chance for stress to creep in.

2. Assign Duties – If there is a task that you do not necessarily need to take care of yourself assign it to another, and as in step 1 do it right away.

3. Avoid Avoidance – Avoiding a problem or task at hand will prolong your agony so become aware of when you are avoiding.

4. Picture and Feel Success – Imagine how good you will feel when the job or task is done.

5. Afform – Using Afformations is probably one of the most powerful ways to avoid procrastination. A few you could use would be “Why am I so on top of everything?” or “Why do I feel so good when I finish a job?”

Procrastination is deadly. The amounts of stress, strain, and confusion, that it adds to your life is completely unnecessary. Start using these keys and releasing the strain.

I do not put off feeling good about myself…. I reject the notion that I can only feel good about myself once I have the right relationship, the good job, the dream house or the sports car. I recognise that I can feel good about myself right now because I can feel the richness of my own heart.

SO many of us put off feeling good about ourselves until later.

We believe that we can only feel good when we have the right relationship, the career, the money, the nice house, the sports car… and not before.

How can we feel good when we are not in a romantic relationship?

And don’t talk to me about feeling good when I do not have enough money in the bank to pay for my food next week, let alone a vacation

How can I feel good when my car is clapped out and my house is not as good as those of my work colleagues?

Just how could I possibly feel good because I cannot get a decent job?

But we need so much to feel good about ourselves right now.

It does not matter what we have, it is enough to know that we have the beauty and truth and goodness of ourselves… and that is something to really feel good about.

And when we have this energy of feeling good about ourselves.. loving ourselves unconditionally.. we attract into our lives all those things that we do not now believe we lack.

OK we might not have the great relationship or job or living environment… but this does not mean all of this is not on its way.

It does not mean we don’t deserve this or will never get this.. some time soon.

The more we focus our attention on not having this or that the more we will bring about the experiences of not having, of lacking or being deprived of.

But when we turn our focus and attention to just how good we are, just how abundant we are, and how while we might not have the money in the bank the real treasure is the love that is in our heart then we draw into our lives all the physical expressions of what is contained in our heart.

And we bring into our lives the money we need as well as the relationship we need to fulfill our life purpose.

We live in an abundant universe.

And we bring into our lives that which we are… in other words, that which we feel about ourselves and that which we believe is true of ourselves.

If we want more money we have to see ourselves as rich in all aspects of life, which is true.

If we want the dream relationship, then we have to believe we are worthy and so desirable that people will be queuing at our door.

And as we thinketh, so it becomes true for us.

This is not a cliche.

It is the truth of the universe.

Like attracts like.

So rich people attract rich things.

Loving people attract loving people.

People who feel good about themselves bring into their lives things that are good.

And, unfortunately, the opposite is true also.

We need to feel good about ourselves because there is so much good in us.

We do not need something outside of us to suddenly feel good.

If we believe that getting married would complete us, then it might be once we are married we will then need something else to complete us.. and we will never be satisfied and always feeling that we lack things.

But the moment we decide to feel good about ourselves because we are here, our life changes.

Why not feel good about the miracle that you are?

Why not feel good about the fact that you were created to be on this planet in this time to love and be loved… which is the truth, of course?

Instead of focusing on what we have not got, what we have not achieved, what we might never have, let us now turn out thinking to just what we have got, what we have achieved and what we will most certainly have… that is, if we abandon this negative thinking!

We can make quite a list.

The positive list in all of our lives will outweigh the negative even if we seem mortified or unduly focused on the gloomy side of life.

OK things could be better… but then they could be a lot worse.

And it is a great idea not to put off feeling good about yourself… give yourself a hug right now and proclaim: I am the BEST ME!

You won’t be wrong!

Changing Your Vocabulary For A Positive Change

The words and phrases we think and use in daily conversations can greatly affect our future.  If speaking in past tense with a sense of regret or longing can put any future dreams on hold.

When using past tense words and phrases without a feeling of joy attached our dreams for the future can take much more time to achieve.  Looking back has never done much good for anyone.  You cannot change the past and you cannot get it back.

There is only one real reason to remember the past briefly and that is for learning sake.  If you look at your past for a brief moment and remember something you learned that can shape your future in a positive way, which will more then likely not hinder your future intents.

Words and phrases that we are so used to using are a habit for many.  The benefit to eliminating them will be an increase in forward thinking and a decrease in negative emotion.  This short list below is an example of phrases that could be easily eliminated from your vocabulary to create a brighter future.

I Didn’t

I Miss

I Regret

I Wish It Would Have

As you can see by using these phrases and many others creates that sense of loss.  They give a sense that you did not get what you wanted or did not achieve something.  There are many other phrases that one uses on a daily basis that promotes a sense of lose or underachievement all of which can be very damaging to future creation as well as self esteem.

When one uses these types of words or phrases they feel as if they missed something or that they were not good enough.  A spiral of other negative thoughts will be attached to these and they will keep on coming until your self esteem is in the toilet.

Correcting these thinking patterns can be relatively easy but one must watch out for one key factor.  That one factor is over monitoring there thoughts.  Over monitoring with cause much more stress and greater negative emotions.

The best way to correct this pattern is just to catch and reverse.  Do not monitor every thought but when you come upon one that is using negative, past tense phrases simply reverse it to positive, future phrases.

For example,   “used to” could become “I am” or “didn’t” could become “I will.”  There are many ways to reverse negative phrases and you change them to whatever is most comfortable for you.  After a month of practice your mindset will greatly change.

Frustration and Regret

how to get over frustration and regret

Two of the most difficult emotions that interfere with positive creation and achieving desire are frustration and regret.  The two can be felt alone but many times accompany each other.

Overcoming frustration and regret can be such a difficult task.  People are conditioned to look back at past decisions and dwell on them.  Past decisions that they believe brought them to where they are now.

The hardest thing for many to understand is that those decisions may have played a part in bringing them to where they are but did not create how they are.  Differentiating between the two can be troublesome.

To succeed in achieving lack of frustration and regret, there are a few steps that one can follow.

First and foremost, is remembering forward thinking, thinking of the good that lies ahead.  With that being said, many people need to practice forward thinking often to achieve relief from frustration and regret.

A way that I found helpful when practicing forward thinking in regards to frustration and regret is to think back for just a moment, and realize that at the time of the decisions you were making the best decision you could with the knowledge you had at hand.

The above technique promotes forgiveness and although every decision that was made may not require forgiveness, the forgiveness promotes relief.  The relief then guides the individual to bring on more relieving thoughts.

A final technique I have used is the flow chart. The flow chart has many different aspects which I will cover in a later post. In a nutshell, a flow chart is the actual drawing out of different times, what you was thinking at those times, and why you made the decision.  The flow chart assists in releasing frustration and regret because people can actually see that they did their best at that time.   Since individuals have a great tendency to be visual in nature, this process of having something tangible in there hands for them to see can be very beneficial.

When all else fails, facing the harsh reality that you are frustrated and regretful because of your own choosing is in order.  This tough love is not comfortable but can smack you back into alignment if you listen to yourself.

He who angers you conquers you, and unfortunately at times that person is yourself.

Changes Start From Within

Many people also forget that important changes come from within. This means starting off with a clear mind, so that you not only know what the end of the journey looks like, but are able to plan a route more effectively. This means a route with a reduced risk of encountering hardships along the way.

Think of it this way, if you got onto a plane in New York and were flying to Great Britain wouldnt you want the pilot to have a flight plan (map) and a clearly planned digital route (another map) before they took the plane thousands of feet into the air?

When desiring to make decisive changes in your life, youll discover that traditional ways of setting goals are just not sufficient. Think back to the times you may have sat down with a pen and paper, or sat in front of your computer, and typed up a list of goals which you felt were important at that particular time in your life.

This process may have taken you a while as you mulled over what you actually wanted to do” you may even have put your goals in order of priority. You might have deliberated for some time over how you could achieve your goals, but then when you had finished making your list and re-read it once, you just it filed away out of sight away from possible future reference? Why hide the future from yourself?

In a lecture I had, a professor once said that one of the greatest problems people had in completing projects was getting ready to get ready. At some point, you make a plan and then you act on it. Its not the plan thats the problem” the problem is in the plans execution.

If you are completely honest with yourself, how many times did your list get used for reference purposes? How many times did it even see the light of day? How long after you got knocked about when something bad happened then forgot all about what you really wanted out of life. Even more importantly, did you deliberately focus on each goal until you could almost see it, touch it and sense it?
